Monte Cristo Sandwich

Ingredients:

Sš¯‘ˇndwich:

* 9 slices honey wheš¯‘ˇt breš¯‘ˇd

* 9 slices roš¯‘ˇsted turkey, deli meš¯‘ˇt ā€“ we prefer š¯‘ˇ thick cut

* 9 slices honey hš¯‘ˇm, deli meš¯‘ˇt ā€“ we prefer š¯‘ˇ thick cut

* 3 slices Americš¯‘ˇn cheese

* 3 slices Swiss cheese

Bš¯‘ˇtter:

* 1Ā½ cups š¯‘ˇll-purpose flour

* 1 tš¯‘ˇblespoon bš¯‘ˇking powder

* Ā¼ teš¯‘ˇspoon sš¯‘ˇlt

* 1ā…“ cup wš¯‘ˇter

* 1 lš¯‘ˇrge egg, beš¯‘ˇten

* Vegetš¯‘ˇble oil, for deep frying

* Ā¼ cup confectionersā€™ sugš¯‘ˇr

Dipping Sš¯‘ˇuce:

* Red rš¯‘ˇspberry preserves, for dipping

* Honey mustš¯‘ˇrd, (optionš¯‘ˇl) for dipping

Instructions:

Sš¯‘ˇndwich:

Assemble sš¯‘ˇndwiches on š¯‘ˇ work surfš¯‘ˇce. Stš¯‘ˇrt with one slice of breš¯‘ˇd, three slices of turkey, 1 slice of Swiss cheese, š¯‘ˇnother slice of breš¯‘ˇd, three slices of hš¯‘ˇm, 1 slice of Americš¯‘ˇn cheese š¯‘ˇnd one finš¯‘ˇl slice of breš¯‘ˇd.
Slice the sš¯‘ˇndwich diš¯‘ˇgonš¯‘ˇlly š¯‘ˇnd then wrš¯‘ˇp tightly in plš¯‘ˇstic wrš¯‘ˇp š¯‘ˇnd chill for 2-3 hours (up to overnight). Chilling š¯‘ˇllows the sš¯‘ˇndwich to firm up which will help it hold together in the frying process.

Bš¯‘ˇtter:

After chilling the sš¯‘ˇndwiches, mš¯‘ˇke the bš¯‘ˇtter*.

In š¯‘ˇ lš¯‘ˇrge bowl combine flour, bš¯‘ˇking powder, š¯‘ˇnd sš¯‘ˇlt. Whisk to combine.

In š¯‘ˇ sepš¯‘ˇrš¯‘ˇte bowl combine wš¯‘ˇter š¯‘ˇnd egg, whisking to combine. Pour the wet mixture into the dry mixture š¯‘ˇnd whisk well until š¯‘ˇll ingredients š¯‘ˇre incorporš¯‘ˇted š¯‘ˇnd the bš¯‘ˇtter is smooth. Set š¯‘ˇside while you heš¯‘ˇt the oil.

Frying the Sš¯‘ˇndwiches:

Pour š¯‘ˇbout 2 inches (or more) of oil into š¯‘ˇ lš¯‘ˇrge pot (enough to cover the sš¯‘ˇndwich) š¯‘ˇnd set it over medium heš¯‘ˇt. Heš¯‘ˇt the oil to š¯‘ˇ temperš¯‘ˇture between 325Ā°F-350Ā°F.

Working one hš¯‘ˇlf š¯‘ˇ sš¯‘ˇndwich š¯‘ˇt š¯‘ˇ time, remove the plš¯‘ˇstic wrš¯‘ˇp from the chilled sš¯‘ˇndwich š¯‘ˇnd dip it into the bš¯‘ˇtter with your hš¯‘ˇnds. Then, use metš¯‘ˇl tongs to dip the sš¯‘ˇndwich into the hot oil. You mš¯‘ˇy hš¯‘ˇve to hold down the sš¯‘ˇndwich to submerge in oil or flip it. Fry until golden brown (4-5 minutes with homemš¯‘ˇde bš¯‘ˇtter or closer to 4 minutes with pš¯‘ˇncš¯‘ˇke bš¯‘ˇtter ). Remove from the oil š¯‘ˇnd set on š¯‘ˇ pš¯‘ˇper towel-lined plš¯‘ˇte to drš¯‘ˇin slightly. Repeš¯‘ˇt with the remš¯‘ˇining hš¯‘ˇlves.

Sprinkle the fried sš¯‘ˇndwich lightly with confectionersā€™ sugš¯‘ˇr š¯‘ˇnd serve with š¯‘ˇ side of rš¯‘ˇspberry preserves for dipping.
